Međutim, zbog velike konkurencije na tržištu, poslednjih godina, usvajanje pristupa upravljanja fokusiranog na korisnike a vođeno informacionim tehnologijama više nije luksuz već realna potreba. Ovo je dovelo do definisanja nekoliko pristupa koji preporučuju najbolje prakse za unapređenje kvaliteta usluga IT-a, među kojima je i ITIL okvir.
