In electron-atom scattering experiments, one obtains the energy loss spectra in which peaks correspond to transitions between discrete energy levels of the target atom. Correct identification of the peaks in the spectrum is the precondition for further analysis of experimental results. Identification is complicated by inevitable measuring errors and apparatus deficiencies, as well as the presence of noise. In this work an expert system is presented that is developed for the purpose of automation and speeding up experimental data processing. This expert system provides quick and complete identification of the peaks in the spectra, calibration of the energy scale, estimates of some of the experimental apparatus characteristics, and based on that, performs further experimental data processing.en
