Abstract: In this paper, we present a model of cloud computing based infrastructure for e-education in a university level. Model is implemented at Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Belgrade. One of the basic problems in developing a model of infrastructure and services for e-education is how to provide scalability and reliability of educational applications and software. The best solution that information and communication technologies offer is based on applying the cloud computing concept. Cloud computing is an area of computing where IT scalable capacity is provided in the form of services delivered via the Internet. There are three approaches to deploying cloud computing concepts depending on type of services delivery: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). Developed model incorporates learning management system (LMS), services for scientific research (digital library, academic info services, document management system, etc.), decision support system, services for communication and collaboration, etc. Model is implemented in Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud (UEC) environment powered by Eucalyptus software platform. Described services are implemented within the cloud and tested in regular teaching activities in Department for e-business of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences. Analysis of performance has been conducted. Results suggest that the introduction of cloud computing into e-education is feasible and it can greatly improve the efficiency of system and achieve a win-win situation for both students and teachers.
