Abstract: The paper addresses possibilities for applying the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) multi-criteria decision-making method in the domain of strategic technology management concerning a key biotechnology-related field - Conservation and sustainable utilization of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture (PGRFA). This procedure was the foundation for a priority setting exercise for PGRFA conservation strategies in Serbia and Montenegro. Generally, AHP method has a wide area of application because strategic choice and technology innovations decision making frequently involves a number of different criteria (mostly qualitative), and several experts, each with their own appraisal. Here, AHP method has been used for evaluating and ranking different PGRFA conservation strategies based on real data and needs and requirements of the National PGRFA Conservation Programme for Serbia and Montenegro. This is implemented by way of an example developed for a workshop organized by Federal Plant and Animal Genetic Resources Institute (FEDPAGRI), held in Belgrade, 2003. The objective of the workshop was to evaluate and prioritize PGRFA conservation strategies within a National PGRFA Programme.
