Abstract: This paper highlights the direct link between libraries in the implementation of sustainable
development and their key role in the achievement of the 17 goals of sustainable development. The authors
emphasize each of the specific objectives of sustainable development and the role and possible contributions
that libraries and their employees have in their realization. In the analysis of the role of libraries in achieving
the specific objectives of sustainable development, it is pointed out that the role of libraries does not lie only
in education for sustainable development. This is because libraries are not only libraries but key institutions
and actors in providing access to information relevant to the objectives of sustainable development,
preservation of global and local cultural heritage, while ensuring universal and informatics literacy, with
access to information and communication technologies.
