Улога младих у заштити животне средине и одрживости локалне заједнице

Abstract

The concern for present and future sustainability includes the youth as its necessary carriers because youth participation provides the decision-making process in this important issue. The research presented in this paper deals with young people's attitudes and opinions regarding their role in their local community environmental protection and sustainability (youth from the municipality of Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia). An analysis of the results was carried out using the SPSS 24 software package. Based on the obtained results we concluded that young people are well aware of the major environmental problems of their community, but that they do not feel sufficiently informed and involved in the resolving process of these issues. Also, young people believe that there are no appropriate institutional frameworks that would enable them to effectively engage in activities related to the environmental protection and sustainable development of their local community.
