Abstract: Floods have significant and major consequences for both the environment and
human civilization. The severity of these consequences varies depending on factors such
as the size and intensity of flooding, geographic location, and the level of preparedness
in the affected regions. This paper presents the application of fuzzy sets and linear
programming models for the selection of locations for the construction, reconstruction
and rehabilitation of flood defense facilities. The mathematical model presented in the
paper has the ability to process subjective preferences and define the priorities of
alternatives, criteria and decision makers. Also, the proposed model enables the
processing of information in case of incomplete and unspecified preferences of the
decision maker.
