Abstract: Development of information society is a part of global world development process. Measuring the status of development an information society is important for decision makers, who decide about further directions of this development. There are many methodologies for information society measuring and monitoring process, developed by the leading world organizations dealing with the issue of global development. An important part of this methodology is definition of a core set of information society indicators. This paper considers the role of information society indicators and the process of defining and using these indicators in the methodologies for information society measuring. For successful benchmarking process that expresses the position of one country or region in a global information society, it is necessary to create one common methodology, acceptable for all Countries.
