Abstract: In the 21st century, despite all the advances in technology, the fact that the number of catastrophes
is increasing is inevitable. Be it natural, anthropogenic or hybrid disasters, their frequency is raising. Every
year, catastrophes take a large number of human lives, devastate the environment and cause significant
economic losses. The role of operational research in studying and minimizing disaster risk is crucial and
increasingly important. Disaster risk reduction, coupled with response and recovery
-based efforts, forms the
basis of modern disaster risk management. For these reasons, different approaches to techniques and
methods of operational research are applied. In this paper, Fault Tree Analysis and Event Tree Analysis are
presented separately.
